Old Chapel Artists

Since 1992 Old Chapel has been a staple of the music community here in Leeds and over the years we’ve had the pleasure of supporting a diverse range of bands and artists from the Kaiser Chiefs to smaller indie bands they’ve all started their journey here.

Kaiser Chiefs

Originally coming through our doors in 1996 under the name Parva, the Kaiser Chiefs began their journey to becoming one of Leeds’ preeminent bands right here at Old Chapel. Their singles ‘Ruby’, ‘I Predict a Riot’, ‘Everyday I Love You Less and Less’, ‘Never Miss a Beat’ and ‘Oh My God’ sold a combined total of 1.1 million as of August 2012. ‘Ruby’ was in fact written right here in room one.

We owe great thanks and appreciation to the Kaiser Chiefs, both as a band and individuals, for all they have contributed and the years of support they have provided to Old Chapel Music, and still do to this day!

Embrace

Embrace are a five-piece alternative rock band from Brighouse, consisting of brothers Danny McNamara (singer) and Richard McNamara (guitarist) as well as Steve Firth (bassist), Mickey Dale (keyboardist), and Mike Heaton (drummer). With three #1 albums, six top ten singles, sold-out arena shows and well over a million album sales behind them, as well as being chosen to record the official England World Cup song, Embrace were on the crest of a wave in the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Pigeon Detectives

Forming in 2004 the West Yorkshire rockers have been at the forefront of the Leeds scene, releasing six studio albums over the years. They first played at Leeds and Reading Festival back in 2006 returning in 2007 and again in 2011 to play the main stage.

Marsicans

Throughout 2017 and 2018, the quartet released numerous singles and played up and down the country supporting the likes of Hippo Campus, Jaws, Clean Cut Kid and Fickle Friends. Next to their own sold-out headline shows throughout the UK, the band has appeared at major festivals including Live At Leeds, The Great Escape, Dot-To-Dot and Reading / Leeds.

The Loose Cut

Since BBC 6 Music’s Christ Hawkins dubbed them West Yorkshire’s answer to Kings of Leon, the Loose Cut have been on fire! Most recently setting off on a nationwide tour with the Bluetones and receiving further play on radio X. They also feature our very own Michael Mcmanus (Manni) on the drums.

Sunflower Thieves

Rooted in sisterhood, childhood friends Amy Illingworth and Lily Sturt-Bolshaw found their feet in the musical hotpot of Leeds to form Sunflower Thieves. Gathering plaudits from BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Radio X, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit & more along the way, they released their debut EP ‘Someone To Be There For’ in 2022.

The Slates

Four mates from Yorkshire, The Slates are a young, energetic acid-indie band who are passionate about writing anthems and moving a crowd. The band have succeeded in not only gaining plays on the BBC, and various series’ on Channel 4 but also slots at YNOT Festival, Isle Of Wight Festival, Manchester Academy 1 and the O2 Academy Leeds. The band first came to us in 2019 as four eager teens, just 14 and 15 years old, looking for guidance in launching their music careers. At the time, Cloth Cat Studios was based here at Old Chapel, running a project called “Get Your Act Together” for young musicians aged 11-18. Our current CEO, Katie Hayes, was leading the charge on that project, and these talented, enthusiastic musicians jumped in to form their band. Over the next 18 months, they worked closely with our mentors, honing their skills. They had four in-person sessions at Old Chapel before Covid hit, shifting everything online. But their determination didn’t falter—they pushed through, listened, learned, and worked incredibly hard. Their commitment and positive attitude have paid off, and they’re now thriving, balancing university life while enjoying their growing success in music.

In 2022 the band supported the likes of Warmduscher and PVA, as well as a UK headline tour. Now, with a few more releases and remixes under their belt, Adult DVD joined our ‘Brand Your Band Programme’ in 2024 after a successful release in 2023 of their sixth single ‘Sadman Mancave’.Lead singer Harry Hanson on Sadman Mancave: “It’s the bands heaviest sounding release, leaning itself more to a techno/acid direction. We’ve always found it a bit funny how men of a certain age decide one day they want to build a mancave or bar in their back garden. So, it only seemed fitting to stick that concept as the vocal hook in a quite aggressive dance tune”

Moose Knuckle

Moose Knuckle is the roaring embodiment of rock’s reckless abandon, a tongue-in-cheek riot of sound that crashes through the boundaries of punk, post-punk, and their self-coined Hunk Rock. Hailing from Leeds, England, this four-piece outfit blends the raw energy of rock with the unabashed swagger of punk, creating an explosive cocktail that’s equal parts chaos and camaraderie.

Moose Knuckle is more than just a band; it’s an ode to every hard-hitting power chord and unapologetic scream that dared to defy convention. Their music, a pulse-pounding journey through the underbelly of rock, is as much a commentary on modern-day disillusionment as it is a celebration of the sheer joy of making noise.

Members of the band have been using Old Chapel Music CIC for many years and assisted us with live sound events and other projects.

About Faces

Setting a precedent with their debut single “Under the Sun”, released in 2023, the indie rock/soft rock band, About Faces, made a grand entrance onto the music scene. This group screams talent from every chord with a magnetic mix of rock genres and a powerful focus on emotive vocals. Led by frontman Sennen Ludman, and supported by Joseph Schofield on drums, Danielle Capstick on keyboards and vocals, Nigel Ngwenya on bass, and Cormac Connolly on lead guitar, the five-piece band based in Leeds creates a captivating musical picture worth a thousand words.Members of the band have been using Old Chapel Music CIC since they were teenagers and we are very proud of what they have achieved to date.

The Hope The Fear

The Hope, The Fear is the alias of UK based multi-instrumentalist Alexander Fletcher. At 26 years old Fletcher has toured the UK and Europe, graced the stage of prestigious festivals and had his music feature on National Radio. Inspired by the sounds of contemporary Americana & Country (Ruston Kelly/David Ramirez/Kacey Musgraves), yet retaining a distinct and unique English identity results in a sound that simultaneously soothes and rouses the spirit. With beautifully written and haunting melodies, Fletcher tells a story like no other. He’ll have you hooked from the first line to the last. This is a message, a prayer, a mantra. A cascading of truth and honesty. It is… ‘The Hope we’ll make it through, The Fear we’ll do it alone.’Alex and his band have joined our Brand Your Band Programme to learn and expand on their knowledge of the industry and marketing of their music.
